Islam in Trinidad evolved in three phases—from early African Muslim voyages to Indian indentured laborers in 1845. Islam faced suppression under colonial laws and missionary pressure, but survived through resilient communities. A major revival began in 1921 with Maulvi F.K. Durrani of the Lahore Ahmadiyya Movement via Woking Mission. His influence inspired Ameer Ali, who led reform: promoting women’s rights, English Islamic literature, Qur’anic understanding, and social upliftment. He founded the Trinidad Muslim League, aligning with Ahmadiyya principles. Later, Maulana S.M. Tufail further expanded the mission, establishing schools, libraries, and interfaith initiatives. In 1975, the Ahmadiyya Anjuman Isha’at-I-Islam Inc. was formally established in Trinidad. It continues promoting rational, progressive Islam via publications, radio, and interfaith dialogue, ensuring the Lahore Ahmadiyya legacy thrives in the Caribbean and beyond.
